Site Roadmap
This is a temporary page, where you'll be able to check on the status of the various aspects of the site I'm working on, with a rough layout of their priority. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to add a comment.
(Note: This list is actually written for my own benefit, but if you have any questions about a given item, please feel free to ask)
Big things:
Content layout
-fine tune the stylesheet so images display correctly after uploading them
-format font size, margins, padding, so text looks less like a wall
-add author name, post date, avatar, category, and tags to the front page listing of an article
-remove the "quote" link from the front page listing of an article
-lighten the grey nav boxes so the text is easier to read
-widen the nav
-let sidebar items be collapsed
-list categories and tags as separate entities
-make the red text next to updated posts in the sidebar link to the most recent posts directly with target
-when viewing an image's page, the preview image should link to the original
-turn comments into nodes, or figure out a way for them to be treated as nodes
SEO
-get koholint listed at various search engines (still need to do bing and yahoo)
-install necessary modules for optimization
User profiles
-format profiles with gusto
-remove "user title" label from that field
-show active age instead of birthdate, with birthday notifications (low priority)
-list latest blog entries in a panel here
-configure the "Panels" module, along with Views integration
-add a buddy list (low priority)
Forums
-change the "save" button for each new reply to "submit" - DONE!
-change the text "post new comment" at the bottom of the forum threads to "post new reply"
-fix the views column in the forum topic listing so that all values aren't "0" - started working via witchcraft
-attempt to implement something that informs you if a new reply has been added while you were typing yours (this might be impossible for me)
-thread subscriptions allowing you to receive notifications through a variety of means whenever a particular thread is updated. There will also be a box in the right nav listing those subscribed threads which have been updated.
-RSS for each thread
-unique page link for each comment and topic
-extending the quote button to link to the quoted reply (might be hard)
-link to a forum by going to koholint.com/forum/general_discussion rather than /forum/2 - done!
-provide a "new" button for forum topics that will bring people directly to new replies in a thread when clicked
-put the paginator at the top, too.
"Views" module configuration, which will add:
-a member list - done!
-a link in the forums to display unread replies - done!
-pages for authors at koholint.com/authorname - actually at koholint.com/by/authorname
-pages for user blogs at koholint.com/blog/username - done!
-RSS for specific authors, user blogs, forums - partially done!
-RSS for specific forums
-RSS for specific categories
-On author's view post page, link to that author's RSS
-author list link at top of member list (now just format it so it looks better)
Chat
-do something about smilies
-get a chat custom tailored to the site
-provide a separate page or popup window for the chat
Little Things that may or may not happen:
-News Feed stuff - I'm not sure if I really want to use this, but I think I need to configure Views before I can even decide.
-wysiwyg editor for the forums and comments - this could go up at any time, once i find a moderately good editor for drupal.
-polls... depends on whether they're really worth it or not
-forum signatures - I just want to make sure these won't break the design and there's someone to limit their size before I add this. These will never be nearly as big as they are on other forums, and no animation.
-calendar - once there's a reasonably active community going, a calendar will be enabled for birthdays, big release dates, some other random crap... or not.
Things for the future:
-forum segregation - as we get more topics, clear categories will emerge for each, and existing threads will be moved accordingly.
-Get uniquely drawn art for the title banner, not just something I found.
-"Organic Groups" module integration, with which people can create pages with wikis, discussion boards, and member lists for their individual projects, such as a WoW guild, or an FFXIV guild. This could also be used for coordinating a pen and paper RPG, supporting an individual's personal creative endeavors, or anything you think you might want a page for.
-A webcomic! New "comics" page with an archive of at least 10 comics when it goes up finally. This is something I'm not going to start until I feel like the other work has settled down.
