Preparations for FFXIV

Now that the non-disclosure agreement for the closed FFXIV beta has ended, it seems like the day of its release is steadily approaching. Although some of us may not to get to play right away, it’s important that we make some preparations in order to all play together. This page may seem early in that respect, but really, I’m just bored, so I made it anyway.

This sort of “mini-site” within Koholint encompasses all the existing systems, such as the chat, private messaging, and forum, but also allows for a specific entry point for people looking just to interact with our linkshell. As release date approaches, significant news will be found here, while post-release, events and other important news will be covered. Once I’ve ironed out the kinks, it should be pretty easy to just jump into this section and get updated on the latest happenings within the game.

There is a specific forum attached to this page, which will act as a general FFXIV discussion until it becomes necessary to add additional sections for whatever reasons. There’s also a wiki, which has not yet been set up. There, I hope to set up wiki-style articles that anyone can edit, related to the specifics of our group. For example, we might have specific entries on favorite leveling locations, or perhaps a starting location that everyone likes. There could be an article for each character’s fictional history, with space for fanart and other fun stuff. I’ll let you know when that area is set up.

Lastly, I want to mention that this page may not be permanent. If SE is smart, they’ll provide players with a means to call data from their servers for usage on websites like this. We could have access to something like the WoW Armory, where each members’ stats and equipment are shown actively, without the need to update. That may require a dedicated site, so we’ll just have to see. I’m also not really crazy about how this page looks sandwiched into Koholint. Maybe once I redesign Koholint from the ground up, I can incorporate a page like this more easily.
