Sometimes, I find that it's fun to try to think of meaningful words, and I've been doing that for some time now, trying to think of a name for our linkshell - one that everyone can get behind.

In this search, I've discovered a lot of terms that we have in common, or just general words that suggest the sort of ideas I imagine for a group such as ours.

Rather than go through all those ideas now, it'd be awesome if we could just start brainstorming from scratch, then maybe I can contribute some of the research when it becomes necessary.

Recently, I thought of the name "Grade" on the spot. It has no particular meaning, it's just a random word, and maybe it works? I'm not crazy about it, so let's hear your ideas!

Virtue

latin words i thought are cool:

animus : courage, vivacity, bravery, will, spirit, soul.
animus : character, intellect, memory, consciousness, often mind.
aurum : gold.
caelestis : heavenly, celestial / noun, a god, dweller in heaven.
fabula : fable, story, tale, play.
nox noctis : night.
veritas : truth
vesper : evening star, evening.
vespera : evening prayer, vespers.
virtus : manliness, excellence, character, worth, courage.

I've decided i'm not crazy about grade. I dont have any suggestions right now but i'll try to think on it.

compass
dungeon

"Ronfaure" is the ancient Elvaan word for "rabbit hole."

San = saint
oria = wind, sunrise
d’ = of
Saint of the wind, sunrise

Asura is a sort of demon god - there's a lot of Zoroastrian, buddhist, and hindu figures that are kinda cool.

We also have a strong association with North, winter, and turtles, via Zelda and FFXI connections. Genbu is the black warrior tortoise associated with that compass direction.

winter+north wind = borealis, boreasgard, boreas, aquilon, aquilor (greek, roman gods of north wind)

mistral is a type of wind

so if we did compass and you can name different things in the company would they be North south east and west?

I guess that's possible.

I think it might be cool to ride the Zelda influence and have a company named "Dungeon," with member linkshells as "Compass," "Map," "Big Key," etc. But, really, that'd be forcing too much control over other linkshells.

As far as potential position titles, I'd probably go with wind names and shit.

I only changed the name of the page and everything to "Compass," to see if it fits.

I rather like Compass. At first I didn't think a noun fit quite correctly, but then I said it out loud a few times. "That's Relnik, third ranking member of Compass", and I liked the sound of that.

Some other things that might be cool, right along the same lines of navigational aid:
ATON/navaid (Aid TO Navigation)(NAVigational AID)
Latitude
Sextant
Lodestone

Found ATON by mistake looking for other terms online, I really like how that sounds too. Just some other things to consider.

you might be onto something with latitude...

Zenith:
The point on the celestial sphere that is directly above the observer.
The upper region of the sky.
The highest point above the observer's horizon attained by a celestial body

Azumuth:
The horizontal angular distance from a reference direction, usually the northern point of the horizon, to the point where a vertical circle through a celestial body intersects the horizon, usually measured clockwise. Sometimes the southern point is used as the reference direction, and the measurement is made clockwise through 360°.
The horizontal angle of the observer's bearing in surveying, measured clockwise from a referent direction, as from the north, or from a referent celestial body, usually Polaris.
The lateral deviation of a projectile or bomb.

im putting definitions i found just because i think they sound interesting ^^; just browsing...

i rather like latitude :o tho i like compass too *thoughtful*
