While my love of animu and mangos has begun to dwindle one piece still holds strong for me. If you havent read or watched one piece yet I implore you to change that. Essentially a pirate comes to a village and befriends a child and inspires said child to become not only a pirate but The KING of the pirates! Now that is very vague description of the show so you're going to have to take my word that the storyline will make you cry tears of awesome at some point. If you like early toriyama you will LOVE one piece. So go do it.

And to all the people coming from vegapunk please hold back on mega spoilery discussion here. There are a number of people who have not yet watched the series.

Hehe, I've started watching anime again recently, I started one piece about 2 days ago, seen about 5-6 eps so far. Well in my opinion I don't find anything that makes me want to rip my hair out in amazement. But I think it's cute so far, I will continue to watch, the 400+ eps kind of scares me that it will evolve into hundreds of filler/dbz-esque grunt/stare/bluffs, but you guys know your shit, I've heard about one piece for 4-5 years but never checked it out. I'm giving it a chance!! I will end up watching every single episode lol...

To add, I really never used to be able to watch anime, I missed out on a lot, but I must thank the youtube/flash players for allowing me to watch anime again.

All i had was an 80gb hdd with like 20gb free space to do anything, IRC took forever to queue and download something, and if someone emoragequit IRC you lost your file lol. I read lots of manga, but so much detail gets lost on black and white pages. Believe me I love the brushwork and can appreciate each panel, but I end up getting absorbed into the story and just reading the dialog bubbles instead of paying close attention to aspect changes/visual clues/character development. Watching a full color anime is such an advantage to the manga.

There was a comic I saw recently that showed each of the major shounen at the beginning, and now. DBZ goes to crazy yelling, Bleach goes to crazy yelling, Naruto goes to crazy crying, and One Piece stays the same.

The story gets more drawn out, but the lightheartedness remains. It didn't strike me as an amazing series until the end of the Nami arc, and didn't hit me as my absolute favorite until the end of the Arabasta arc. It sucks trying to watch another shounen after One Piece other than original Dragon Ball, because they get so tiresome so quickly.

I was crazy for it the first time I read it in jump. It was right in the middle of the buggy arc I think. I liked the 4kids dub but I felt that something was just terribly wrong with it. and then funi started dubbing it and I got addicted and that drove me to search for more episodes. At that point I was watching bleach/naruto subs so I already knew about fansubbers and the rest is history.

Currentlty on Usopp storyarc, might I say...

Spoiler: Highlight to view
So much could be said about ugly characters, and Usopp clearly does not fit the role of a main character(in appearance) at all, yet I imagine he becomes part of the cast later on?

Anyway Luffy, I don't know what to think about him, seeing him as a little kid overreact to everything was great, he's much older now, doesn't say much, I guess his character could go anywhere as I continue to watch. So it's getting better hehe, not that it wasn't good already :p

hahahaha.. one piece <3

i didn't like one piece at first. i... i confess, i was a narutard. and in my world nothing could compare, hahaha. i watched a few one piece eps here and there when bored, but i thought it so childish. i started appreciating it a bit more during nami's arc, but it wasn't until skypiea that i fell in love with it. and now, haha, nothing can compare. :D

I'm not putting this in spoilers because anyone who looks up one piece on the Internet will find images of the main characters, Usopp included.

I watched the 4kids version after hearing it was supposed to be good, excited that it would be on American TV finally. I liked it, even then. I watched as far as Chopper's arc, and still liked it. Then I started to realize the scale of the series and found myself flopping around in a puddle. I also was perturbed by portions that seemed like there should have been more blood, or whenever a cork was shot from a gun. I didn't even realize what I was missing.

Several years later, I was bored, and figured I'd give it a shot after a friend described some of the more global dynamics of the show, like the World Government and Luffy's family. I downloaded up to the end of the Arabasta arc, figuring it would be worthwhile to rewatch the beginning, since I heard a few episodes had been cut in the 4kids version.

I hated Usopp in the 4kids version. He was a whiny baby with a stupid voice, and he just totally sucked. When I got to his episodes this second time around, suddenly his voice was likable (Kappei Yamaguchi ftw), and the lengths he would go to help his community were much more real. 4kids had cut out the part where he was shot, which was exactly the punctuation necessary to bring me to tears as he desperately tried to save his village. And then, with that pain endured, he swallows his pride and continues the lie that would save the town from heartache.

It took me a while to decide on my favorite character, since I'm really intrigued by all of them, but I was more or less coaxed into choosing once I joined the fansub forum, where such opinions are often had. And, that favorite is Usopp. I find it absolutely beautiful that my favorite character from DBZ, Krillon, is voiced by Sonny Strait in English, and the same wonderful man does Usopp's current English voice. Perhaps now, people will be able to appreciate Usopp in English.

Kappei Yamaguchi is a GOD among voice actors.

I honestly cant think of a single character in one piece I dont like. Including villains just by the principle that I love hating some of them.

Heh, I am up to like ep 88 now, I haven't been watching it as frequently, 1-2 a night. I notice Zoro never gets to fight at full strength yet, maybe they're saving him still, we know he is in-humanly powerful, due to his training, but he either has an injury while fighting someone formidable, he's asleep, or his opponents are weak. Also Tony Tony Chopper is clearly a very cute reindeer :]

THAT IS AWESOME.

How far are you now?

hmmm... I think we might need some more focused One Piece discussion for the current chapters.

Wow, I totally missed this thread!

I got into One Piece when I was bored sometime and found episodes lying around on a different computer at uni, so I grabbed them ( in German D: ) and watched and instantly fell in love. It helped that the German dub seems really very good, voices fit nicely.

When I ran out of episodes I didn't know where to look for more, so I was quite bummed until some months or years later I ran across K-F subs and started watching the whole show again via those.

The manga I only started reading after PP forced me to do so, not regretting it, though! ( You hear that, Naji? D: )

NO ONE, Not even PP, can get me to start reading OP. It's just the way I've decided it to be xD;

And OP is love, no more need to be said. ^^
