Here's the jobs:
http://www.eorzeapedia.com/wiki/en/Category:Disciplines

Disciples of War
Archer • Gladiator • Lancer • Marauder • Pugilist
Disciples of Magic
Conjurer • Thaumaturge
Disciples of the Hand
Alchemist • Armorer • Blacksmith • Carpenter • Culinarian • Goldsmith • Leatherworker • Weaver
Disciples of the Land
Botanist • Fisher • Miner

Basically, these are the launch jobs, but it seems like this system is built to easily add more jobs later, since they're really just skill sets.

What are you planning on using?

Ever since I dreamt up the concept of the "Leonard" character, who's making his way into FFXIV as Leon, I've had this idea that he's a master of close quarters combat, but still perfectly capable of shooting people like crazy.

So, I don't know what job will be my main yet, though I'd be fairly disappointed if archer stays as it is (only able to equip a bow, with no melee alternative when you're up close). I mean, it was cool to see that guy in the intro movie go SLASH SLASH *shoot*. Plus, the idea of a samurai is a swordmaster with archery as a backup skill... if they ever implement that.

Basically, I'll go for whatever lets me dual wield, or pugilist.

After playing at least a little bit of each of
the martial jobs I have opinions on three of
them: Pugilist, Marauder and Lancer.

PUGILIST: I never thought I'd be saying this;
mostly because MNK is one of the few jobs I
didn't end up leveling to max by the time I
left ffxi, but I love this job. It is such a
contrast to the things I disliked about ffxi.
Anyone who thinks ffxiv is slow-paced ought
to give PUG a try before casting stones.

MARAUDER: Not surprising at all; I enjoy this
class. A decent array of abilities even in the
low ranks. "Bloodbath" is a very welcome ability.
Converting some damage dealt to HP is awesome
when you're soloing. From what I've noticed,
all melee jobs benefit from a fairly high double
attack process rate, so you can expect battles
to feel much more fluid this time around.

Lancer: Of the three, I have the least amount of
experience with Lancer; however, I really enjoy
the ability to deliver damage *thru* enemies.
"Ferocity" is a great ability to combine with
other classes.

Don't want to go too far into anything, but I am
enjoying the classes of this game.

I definitely believe Musketeer will be available
soon, and hope beyond all hopes...I will be reunited
with my long lost SAMURAI :)

PS: on an unrelated note(though I am sure most have
already figured this out) this game is definitely
a direct progeny of ffxi. There are Qiqirin (sp?)
in Limsa Lominsa, and "The Brugaire Consortium" still
exsists.
