A thread for all HxH related things (anime/manga)!

I'm quite sure most of you know about Hunter x Hunter already, so I'll skip the introductions. Soon enough the reboot of the HxH anime will start (in October) and the manga is reaching the end of the Ant-arc (which has been going since the end of Greed island - pretty darn long).

So any HxH discussions goes here :3 Use spoilers for manga related stuff~

Are you referring to HxH or just the reboot?

If it's the former, I can only recommend that you watch it (or read it, I haven't read it though), if it's the latter, http://myanimelist.net/anime/11061/Hunter_x_Hunter_%282011%29

... instead of watching the origianal, i guess you could simply watch the remake instead... it's gonna start airing soon ^^

I've honestly never heard of this franchise that I can remember of.

How involved is it? I've got a pretty long list of anime and stuff to watch, so this would have to be the bee's knees before I could really invest the time.

well, it's a 62-episodes long shounen series... what i loved about it was the battles throughout the series, as more or less all of them was battle of wits instead of actual strength...

it has this certain charm to it, that really makes it enjoyable to watch...

i guess all i can say is you should put it on your to-watch list and at least try it out at some point... it's awesome~

It's 62 eps, yeah, but if you're gonna watch, you're gonna want the 30 OVA eps too. Greed Island is probably among the best shounen ever.

I just watched the first remake epi of HxH and well...
Yes it's faster paced. But so far, I believe I prefer the older version. The VA's are... okay, but there too - I prefer the old ones. Leorio got the best VA of the three, whereof Kurapica (g'damn name) got the most girlies of em. And did he get a bit of personality change? Feels like it anyway o.<

Buuut I'll contiune to watch it. It's just probably me being an oldfag for now anyway ^^

The faster pace reminds me of what FMA did with Brotherhood... I think the faster pace is good if you've already seen the original, but it can be confusing if you're new to HxH...

I disagree with the VA's though... Leorio sounds way too goofy in the remake, while he sounds way cooler in the original... Kurapika sounds a lot more sinister in the new version than in the original, but I love that... Btw, I always thought he sounded girly ^^
Gon's VA does a good job, especially considering she's relatively new in the business...

I don't really like the OP and ED though... especially compared to the original's first OP, which I loved~
BGM is good though...

Yeah, as I said, might just be me being an oldfag and remembering wrong lol.
Well, I want to recall that he didn't sound /that/ girly in the first and actually made me think that he had a male VA, while in the remake, it pretty much sounds like it is a girl that does it (I havn't checked MAL about it yet).

But I can always get used to the voiced. What made me go a bit ">.>" was his act that "I can't answer your question cause that would be reveleaing my deepest secret." thing. And then he quite casually tells in anyway. IF I remember right, in the original it came much later when the issue actually was at hand. And he didn't appear to be wearing any lenses now? o.<

The music was fine yeah, thecartdriver (blog - google it) had a pretty good opinion about it (which I agree with that is).

And... I frankly I can't remember the ops XD or eds xD

It is a girl VA in the remake ^^

I see what you mean about the personality thing now... it is kinda weird... we didn't see much Kurapika in this ep though, so I think I'll wait with the judging until 2 or 3 more eps...

Kurapica never wore lenses until Yorkshin anyways. However, I liked that this time around, it didn't seem like the ship picked up the bulk of it's passengers at Whale Island. Because I always thought that strange in the original. It's not that big an island, after all.

And last time I thought Kurapica was a girl from the get-go. Now that I know better, I was cool with the VA.

And the fast pace is good. We might even see the heaven's arena by the end of this season. Which would be cool and all.

So... After watching epi 5 my major complain is probably Hisokas VA. He is the guy that did Kazehaya in Kimi ni todoke, and that pachinko manager in Kaiji s2. In Kaiji he was indeed a bad guy (cause hisoka is kind of a bad psycho guy) but it worked. In HxH... He kind of lack that psycho feeling and sounds more like a pedo than a crazy killer (kind of).

But maybe it's just an issue of getting used to it... We'll see~

I agree... Hisoka's voice was so much more sinister and evil-sounding in the original... Didn't know it was the same as Ichijou in Kaiji, but yeah, that worked fine... Not as much here though...

I think you're right that we'll get used to it, but the old one was still waaay better....

Hisoka's VA was damn awesome in the original. Hard to live up to. But at least he has the right hair color from the start.

So, what about that brother of Killua's, huh? And I feel sorry for whoever meets him next, because healing Gon is probably quite a bit more hard core than making someone a billionaire.

Manga stuff

Probably, but since they both seem to have a good relationship, Killua might have some kind of idea. It also seems like he was the one that figured out how that whole "system" works.

Manga, manga.

It seems like Killua got along fine with him before the rest of his family discovered the wish-granting powers, and knew exactly what all the conditions were, and could've saved that butler. He just couldn't care less. Also, Killua has to face the consequences of the "newest computer model at the time", not saving Gon. That would be the next person.

Leorio has gotten awesome :P Teleporting his hand like that? We saw some guy doing that back in Greed Island, but that was in an arena set up for it. And slugging it out on Ging? I thought he had spent his time studying to become a doctor.

Manga

Spoiler: Highlight to view

Yeah, that part surprised me too! And just because he has been studying to become a doctor doesn't mean he didn't polish his other skills~ :3 And I thought Ging was going to dodge it. Do you think Leorio has a chance to win that president voting thingy? It did seem like he got a few votes after the Ging thing :P

Manga

Spoiler: Highlight to view
First of all, I believe Ging to take it like a man, because Leorio has a good reason to wanna punch him. Seen overpowered people take punches for the same reason in other animes.

As for the election, we finally have a reason to care for the intricacies of the election. I felt the whole election was irrelevant until now, really.

So far the remake is good. Not an amazingly new revamped experience like Full Metal Alchemist was though. I liked the original of both shows, so far I prefer the original of HxH, but I'll have to see where it takes us through the rest of the series.
