The FFXIV anticipation thread
No news has come from this game since they announced the closed beta, but I have a feeling we're still excited for it.
So, I'm curious, what are peoples' plans once they get a hold of the game?
I'm hoping to start/co-found a linkshell/guild with any of you friendly people who are interested in doing so. It'll have some epic name yet to be decided, I'm already building up features for this site to support a large amount of people from that guild.
As for my character, I was originally quite enthralled by the idea of having another monk, this time a Roegadyn/Galka. Now, I'm thinking I might still go with the large muscular antithesis of myself, but maybe with some archery skills. If the "job" system is really as fluid as the press around this game implies, I might be able to do both monk and ranger without much trouble.
I just hope we don't have to all fall into the same patterns of subjob specialization, where every job has a preferred set of complementary abilities. I want my Monk/Ranger to work, damnit!
We will be joining you Josh, Lao and I. Hopefully Lao's name and my name will be available! We won't be on as much as we were before, but we will be playing. :) As long as they have a black mage, I'll be fine!
The game was recently confirmed for 360, so that's nice. I might not have to buy a PS3.
Then again, it may look better on PS3?
It _will_ look better on PS3.
Yet another reason to buy PS3... I don't wannaaa spent that much money >__>
They are expensive, but not as much as before...I will most likely play on my PC and Lao will play on the PS3. ^.^b
It may not actually look better on PS3 if they're developing with the 360 in mind. If they actually do the PS3 version, then work on the 360 version, then that may be true. We won't know until we can see screens from both.
The main problem with console versions of games like this is the limited RAM. I believe this console generation is locked in at like 512 MB or something as absurdly low like 1 GB, since RAM that big was much more expensive at the start of the generation.
Then again, they have the advantage of big screens and not having to have a powerhouse computer.
The beta site is up

I've decided that i'm going to make a roegadyn marauder. Hopefully i'll be able to have him as a puglist too. So, who is making what?
http://ffxiv.zam.com/story.html?story=22055
I'll probably post more about what we're learning from the alpha, but that article is very clear about everything I've been trying to figure out.
Except I still don't know for sure if the red roegadyn can have dark hair or not!
I want to go for pugilist and archer as my primary jobs.
Hurray for 14... My comments later @_@
so I've asked a bunch of you already, but if you have any further comments or suggestions for names, I'll take them.
We've basically narrowed down our options for our guild name to one of these 4:
kishin - fierce deity
boreasgard - god of the north wind + guard
ilumbre - the shadows (opposite of illucia)
noctgarde - night guard
with their meaning next to each.
Everyone gets 3 points, basically, to apply to each name. Your favorite option gets a 2, your second favorite gets a 1, or if you're undecided, your least favorite gets nothing. Or, ignore the point system, and just say what you like best, I'll throw down your points.
My own preference
Please make your own decision before highlighting my vote.
1 - Illumbre
Boreasgard-2
Ilumbre-1
Turns out the leaked details and videos concerning combat are totally useless!
From the Dengeki interview:
HT: Komoto told the testers before alpha started that the tempo of battle is something we’re looking at. When beta test starts, we will be implementing a completely different battle system, practically remade from the ground up. We weren’t planning on using the current battle system in the first place, but we didn’t want players to wait until beta, so we explained the situation and opened the test.
Awesome. I hope they go with something less slow and junk.
would like to add that i have a site for a linkshell that i plan on creating...not a guild or anything just a social one but i got the site up so people can make sure they all get on the same server as friends http://guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=354121&TabID=2964758
so i plan on doing that when i start...
depending on character creation (and price) i plan on making 2 characters Jax Nights that will probably look like my old character in XI ...elezen of course...then a girl elezen names Emma or Emmalyne Nights. Jax will probably have a main as lancer but not quite sure yet... emma will be archer (based on my own characters i sraw cuz im a nerd like that)
...i might make more too just cuz i can...cuz...im a sucker for good character customization ^^;
and im going to be playing on ps3...providing it lives that long XD; *overheating issues*
Just posted my giant E3 summary article.
It's here:
http://koholint.com/everything-to-know-about-ffxiv-revealed-around-e3
And here's a list of stuff I said:
-Company system to include multiple linkshells, level up, own shared land, have websites
-Battle system was sped up, stamina/effect gauge is cool
-players have a physical level and a job level, each player will become a unique mishmash of abilities, never need to go back to level 1
-items will wear out, crafters fix them
-theres a way to sell from a bazaar without being online
-character creation is cool
-they're already working on an expansion, it's called Abyssea oops, that's for FFXI
-red roegadyn can have dark hair
-JSE
-beta soon.
-you can send a /tell without typing a full player name+surname, just by typing their first name, then you assign a nickname to a given player.
SO ANYONE EXCITED?
YES I AM VERY EXCITED
So who is getting the Collector's Edition, and who plans on preordering in general?
I WANT to but...meh...IF they come out with a ps3 version i am definately preordering and getting a collecters edition.
im actually considering figuring out a way to play on a computer >.0
What's your processor and graphics card look like?
It's not too hard to upgrade, assuming your processor is already decent enough, and you don't have integrated graphics.
hp pavillion zv5000
amd athalon 64 processor 3000+
Nvidia Geforce4 440 Go 64m
So who is getting the Collector's Edition, and who plans on preordering in general?
I'm planning on doing both.

Yeah, you're boned :( Gonna need to drop at least $450 on parts to build a computer that can play it. Or, I believe Dell has something for $550 that could play it.
thought so T____T

I want something with a beard and scars. Hopefully swinging the biggest, meanest looking weapon it can get it's hands on.
