~Crafts/Projects~
Crafts/Projects!
This is the thread for the the things you make with your hands, instead of on paper or on the computer. Fairly simple, if you can make something tangible and take pictures, post it here.
There is no restriction to the content you can post, if you build a toothbrush holder, a house or a picture frame, let's see it.
If you want advice on something or like something someone else has posted and want more detailed info, ask.
Let's see some great creations here.
User Creations:
This is where I will organize things made by each user with links to their posts.
AAH that skateboard is awesome @.@!!! i did wood burning in school once i made a wooden chocobo clock...hmm...maybe i could post it here :o its old but im still proud of it. Nice toes by the way XD
I may have a couple things i can post on here...*looks thoughtful*
Thanks, the skateboard is one of my favorite things I've had the chance to do. Even though it was fairly simple. I got to go from rough sanding to fine detail and finishing. That I actually finished it might be why I like it so much.
Please do share your clock, my older brother made a FF themed clock in school too. It's funny, I meant to crop the toes out but I guess I forgot.
Steel, you are truly amazing, I wish I had your skills...
Looks good stel. I wish I worked with wood or something.
I have a Link hat prototype that'll post soon, also a delivery bag from Wind Waker. I suppose my costume would qualify as another thread topic, so I'll save that. SOOOOOON. I will reveal how to make a Link hat.
Also thanks for making the thread, Steel.
How do papercraft fit into this category? I'd make a thread about it but since my printer is dead all I have are the ones I made beforehand.....and that fucking tingle papercraft that's still unfinished.
I would say that papercraft is just fine for this thread.
I printed out the full Link hat papercraft pattern some months ago, it's still just a stack of paper though.
Sorry for the poor quality on these, I did them in a rush and its kind of hard to line up shots with this webcam.
Majora's mask:
This was probably the most fun I ever had while making papercraft. Everything about this ran smoothly and made me feel pretty good about my skills. This is currently hanging on a divider I built for my "stuff that I would prefer not to be touched by anything with no thumbs" Shelf.

Wind fish:
I made this the night I heard that this website was going to be called koholint. If it wasnt directly after hearing about it it was pretty soon afterwards. I tried to hide the fact one of the wings feel off. Right now its hanging over the majora's mask pictured previously.

Meowth balloon:
I made this pretty early on, before I knew about using too much glue and stuff. You cant really see it but there are quite a few stains on there to testify to that. Currently this is hanging next to a copy of "the starry night" I often imagine team rocket floating over the village grabbing people with a comical red gloved hand and then dropping them for no real reason.

I can provide the patterns to all of these if anyone wants them.
oh wow! Wind Fish! wooooo! That kinda makes me want to finish that Wind Fish lineart I made so long ago for the site.
Nooo clue if this fits here.. but eh, well xD;

would probably have turned out better if I had a knife/cutting stuff instead of a scissor...still, I'm kinda proud of it ^^; Simple as it was~
(it kinda hurt to cut in it =<) Pic taken with laptop webcam, which would explain the lack of picture quality~
That definitely fits, I'd say.
Is it a cake, or a giant cookie? And is that powdered sugar? Did you cut out holes in a piece of paper, then apply sugar?
It's a mudcake (swedish: kladdkaka) and yeah, it's powdered sugar (or icing sugar/confectioner's sugar). I first drew a ring of how big the cake would be, cut it out, drew the flag, cut that out and fix the cuts with adhesive tape, put on cooldowned cake -> apply sugar with a sieve ^_^
looks like really precise work, nice job! Was it a good cake?
I had to skip on the teeth and eyes/nose-details thou =/ It was delicious~
Looks awesome Najica, almost too good to eat, but only almost.
Nick, nice papercraft, the mask is really cool.
I'm thinking of making a tom servo replica. There's a bunch of guides on it and it sounds fun as heck. The crappy part is going to be finding parts....worse comes to worse i'll just have to buy them here:
i'm hoping I can find my own parts to keep with the thrown together look of the show and to help build fond memories.
Never heard of Tom Servo, but a quick google later and it looks like it will turnout cool if you do make one.
New project im working on!

Plushie of my character blaze:

hmm...note to self: need to make a more recent drawing of blaze -_-
um...would also like to note that my couch is stained like that...its actually clean =_=;;;;;
That's really cool Jax. You should fill him with memory foam instead of cotton. It would be awesome.
I have a few new projects in mind right now, hopefully I'll be having some starting progress pics in a few weeks.
thanks :3 lol! too bad memory foam is like...hard x.x
cool! cant wait to see what u got!
also: finished! (for now)

ill eventually make (or buy from build-a-bear XD) some clothes for him...and maybe a detachable tail and wings X3 ...i need to give my hands a break though x_x got cut with scissors once and stabbed multiple times with needles and pins...ugh lol...i think he turned out pretty well despite how many times i fucked it up (ears were on upside down, feet were inside out, crappy seams at first)
You made him naked...
he dosent mind :)
Well, it's really fucking good work from what I can see. You must be really proud!
Thanks! (\^0^/) i AM really proud!
Looks even better stuffed. If I were him I might be a bit upset about the lack of muscle definition though. About how tall is he?
hahah he is very upset about the lack of muscle structure...and his man parts...and the fact he has NO ass XD actually im pretty sure he hates the whole concept of being a stuffed animal.
uhhh lets see... i think hes about a foot tall *goes to get a ruler* about 13 inches...my friend said she thinks he looks smaller than he actually is in the picture

my friend made this for me :3 that is her hand not mine. im not pale. just wanted to clarify that
I can tell it's one of those bead press with an iron things. And it looks cool, but what it actually is, that I cannot tell.
And what's wrong with being pale?
... megaman ?
... well, it IS a dude in a blue robot armor, yesh ?

So, I'll start things off here.
I've made a few things over the years, here's what I've managed to get pictures of.
Barrel [Incomplete].
Medium: Wood(Poplar)
I never did finish the straps, or stain it. I tried to make same awesome oak straps for it, but they cracked when trying to put them on, that was quite a disappointment. This was a very technical piece to figure out how to make, I have Higure/Cleite to thank for the calculations that made everything fit the first try.
Pipe
Medium: Wood(Oak)
Sorry, no progress pictures this time. No I don't smoke, anything. Made for a friend on a whim, kind of just wanted to see if I could, some inspiration from the meticulously long pipes hobbits use. The stem is all hand carved, used some power tools for the bowl though. Bowl and stem are two pieces.
Mystery Statue
Medium: Wood(Yew)
This is all I'm willing to show of this right now, though I have actually come much further than this. It all started as a joke with a friend, eventually it's going to be a statue of her. Which is why I don't want to post progress pics until I'm done.
Sword in a Pedestal
Medium: Wood(Oak)
This was another spur of the moment thing, got the idea one night, then made it the next day. I has no real purpose, just thought it might be interesting.
Machete
Medium: Wood(Poplar, and Oak)
Have I mentioned I tend to do things on whim? Have had this machete from Walmart for around a year and never used it once, decided I could probably make it look a lot better with some wood fittings. Main material on it is poplar, oak for the fittings where the sheath and hilt meet. Got some inspiration from I Chinese broad sword, and some from a Greek sword, or at least that's what I was thinking when I designed it. The wolf's head is burned in, couldn't find any Dragons I liked to match the Chinese theme I was kind of going for. Sorry, no progress pictures, since I made the whole thing in a spare afternoon.
Skateboard
Medium: Wood(Unknown)
So a friend wanted me to wood burn something into the bottom of his long board, at the time, I'd never used my wood burner before, so I didn't want to start with his, rather expensive, long board. Decided to see what I could do on one of his trick decks. Sanded the thing smooth to remove most gauges and paint. Carbon transferred the graphics onto the board and then burned them in. After that was done I coated it in shellac for durability. He was so impressed he won't ride the thing anymore, still deciding on something for the bottom of his long board.
Cellphone Case
Medium: Cardboard, Sandpaper, "Ito" wrap, velvet paper.
Another quick idea that I put together during spare time at work. Cardboard framing to keep it low profile, lined in the velvet paper to keep the inside from scratching the phone, painted sandpaper to replicate the same or eel skin on a real sword hilt. Then some cloth to do the wrap it all up.
I've made other things, and left many others unfinished, a few pieces for cosplay that I might post another time too.
