I dont think I really have to explain who batman is, but i'll just get into the thick of it and recommend my two favorite stories.
Arkham Asylum: Living Hell
If you like Batman villains this is for you. Living Hell gives you a window into Arkham Asylum through the eyes of recently incarcerated Warren "The Great White Shark" White. Living Hell was largely the inspiration for Batman: Arkham Asylum, and it shows. If you liked AA you will love this comic.
Plus: Humpty Dumpty is one of the best characters ever.

The Killing Joke
The killing joke is more or less the bible for the Batman/Joker relationship. It established a lot of things in current batman continuity (Barbra Gordon becoming oracle) and gave one of the most popular versions of The Joker's backstory. This is probably one of my favorite interpretations of the joker because he has the balance between a cold calculating criminal mind capable of the most inhumane acts imaginable and a goofy uncle with really bad jokes.

Oh, and id be loath to make a batman thread without having the two best characters!!
SO THERE I WAS HOLD UP IN THIS QUARRY WHEN BATMAN COMES SNOOPIN AROUND.....
