Anime Recommendation Thread
So, I thought a thread to recommend your favorite animes would be a good idea. A thread you could click your way into, if you feel like being inspired and would like to watch a new anime. I'm then thinking of collecting people's recommendations in the first post, so you'd be able to browse the different recommendations without having to change pages ^__^
I would definitely start out by recommending a relatively new anime, it started a couple of months ago, called RAINBOW (link). Taking place shortly after Japan's loss in WWII, you follow seven boys who's living together in what's essentially a prison. They form a brotherhood inside, and try to survive the days until they are released.
An amazing story imo, with so much happening in each episode. Definitely worth checking out ^.^
So, recommend something ^.^
I'm hoping to find a new good anime ^^

good idea with the youtube clips, i added one to RAINBOW as well ^__^
Recommendation huh, Not my best "topic" but i'll give it a try~
Aria the animation (which is season 1 of 3) - A very slice of life anime that is about 3 girls aiming to become Prima, which is the professional term for a pro Undine. The term slice of life should tell you how the story is really. A nice anime if you wish to relax from all the fighting and war and drama~ ^^ MAL,clip - no subs though
Kaiji - Anime filled with tension and despair! About a guy that falls into dept due to his friend (from some time ago) and then gets into the world of dangerous gambling in order to pay/cancel his dept. (also from the same creator that made Akagi) MAL, couldn't find a good clip so here's the OP with...spanish subs? clip~
Casshern Sins - A quite dark and maybe even depressing anime, but using an, hm, old looking but still new animation style (it's a "reboot" of old casshern) it's quite catching. Okay, I suck at explaining, but either way it's good~! Can leave you thinking a bit, or not, if you don't wish to. Quite a lot of action too unless my memory fails me. MAL, clip - anime trailer
I could come with more..but I'm lazy ^^;
i just dl'ed all episodes of Kaiji a week ago or something... looking forward to watching it ^.^
BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG OOOOOOOOOO ITS SHOWTIME!
That, TTGL, One piece , and lupin the third are probably the only anime I can recommend.
Seconding TTGL
Katekyo Hitman reborn!: My current obsession, It's pretty neat I guess, ive been following the manga and the anime...honestly the manga is better but...eh. its about um..mafia. and underwear. and babies with guns.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS089oeLxio
Eyeshield 21: Football and demons. i dunno...i like it XD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrkbNCJ9DfM
TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN: nuff said. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVb8nKj6iYo
Slayers: kind of a comedy fantasy thing...the older ones are better than the new ones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QdtEXexKns
Saiyuki: epic awesome...fun..ness. 1st season is the better one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1Go9zIkDOM&feature=fvst
Golden boy: HURR. epic show is epic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbIYaD75WZE
Trigun: my first non pokemon-like anime XD one of my faves definately.

Lupin the third: funny and cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuxOXnhZVfs

I love that. Normally I hate anime related acapella but this is cool.
WOAH. thats awesome.
Remebered another one while watching anime :3
Mushishi - Hm, i actually have some troubles placing this is some good genre, maybe because it was more than a year ago i saw it, but i'd probably say slice of life-ish, adventure, fantasy/supernatural and mystery. It's about a man that travels to different places...okay, I can't really exlain, I'll let mal take care of it ^^;; -MAL entry-, and afraid no clips that makes sense u_u But I remember it was good~! watched like 6-8 epis in one go ^^;
I enjoyed Myself, Yourself, but I dunno if anyone else will. Can't say too much about it, though, that would spoil it, but it is depressing, with a good ending.
Got another one I liked:
wolf's rain
just thinking about that last episode.......

Tekkon Kinkreet - Well I kind of fell asleep on this film
BLASPHEMY! Tekkon is the best bloody film I've seen in my life. I cannot express how much I love it.
Well, besides that ...
Kurozuka - The best TV series I know. Very bloody, gorgeous fighting scenes, the most beautifully drawn characters I've ever seen, awesome mind-fucking and suspense that makes you go 'ARGH WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON'. And for anyone who is interested in the Japanese language, this is a must see. We're talking 11th century samurai Japanese, mixed with Edo-jidai mixed with modern and even future street talk.
Freedom - The secret OVA made by the creator of Akira and Steam Boy, set three hundred years from now on the moon (and is actually all a very, VERY long ad for noodles).
Seirei no Moribito (Guardian of the Sacred Spirit) - Maybe it's just because I like Japanese history and culture, but I absolutely love this show. About a female bodyguard who gets blackmailed into protecting the emperor's son - from the emperor himself.
KARAS - Awesome fighting scenes mixed with Japanese folklore and the apathy of modern day Japan.
Michiko to Hatchin - Sort of made by Watanabe Shinichiro, the creator of Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop (that I also strongly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen them, by the way).
Higashi no Eden - If everyone hasn't seen it yet.
I think I already had, or have since downloaded everything everyone suggested here. Haven't had a chance to watch all of it yet, but looking forward to everything I haven't seen.
Just finished up BECK, which I had been putting off for some time do to the content. A show about making a band just didn't sound that interesting. Everything I had heard about it said it was great though, and when someone here recommended it I couldn't keep putting it off. It was amazing, blew through it in 2 days, and stayed up all night watching it both nights. One of the shows that really pumps you up and makes you want to do something.
Thanks for the recommendation Cadenza.
Pumpkin Scissors.

its my new favorite anime even though its short and it dosent solve alot of questions in the end.
Well I really recommend checking out Go Nagais works. Especially Devilman. Some of Nagais works.
-Violence Jack
-Maou Dante
-Devilman
-Lady Devilman
-Mazinger
-Cutey Honey
http://myanimelist.net/people/2992/Nagai_Go
I dont know how many of you are familiar with Nagais work. I grew up watching Mazinger as a kid and I even saw bits of other of his works. But I strongly recommend it. Its old and all, but I really doubt anyone who has seen some of his works can say they wont remember it.
One more thing. I strongly recommend you to read about the awesomeness of Go Nagai.

Nice thread, I can use some recommendations. I haven't been watching a lot of anime or doing much of anything productive. (Since I've been hooked on MMO games for the past 10 years.) I also don't wanna mention anything too popular, since most people have already seen it I imagine.
Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad - Short. Probably one of my favorite series. It's about a normal dude who has potential to become a rockstar! This is probably better enjoyed as a manga, since the music in the show is objective. (It can be pretty bad, I suppose, I still enjoyed it, I've heard the American version is fairly better.) However the animation is superb! I suppose when you don't have to animate fight scenes, there is time to illustrate a guitar being played!
Clip.
Hikaru No Go - Comes to my mind. I read this a while back, and it's amazing how fun they can make a plain old board game. Lot's of "SURPRISED FACE" shots, but who doesn't love that! Also Death Note artist =]
Clip.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team - This may be pure nostalgia for me, since it was on toonami. (So it may not hold water to classic, or even more, contemporary anime.) However, I loved every episode of this fine program. Selling point for me is the possible realistic usage and detail of the mechs, as well as the militaristic backdrop.
Clip.
Hunter X Hunter - Well what happened to the creator?! Great show, some fightan, huntan, adventuran going on. Haven't really kept up with it. (I read the manga, but I imagine the show is good too)
Clip.
Scryed - I vaguely remember this one, but it was interesting. If I recall, a kind of self-destructive(yet not emo) protagonist. People with special abilities are oppressed, not really a dystopian kind of setting though.
Clip.
Tekkon Kinkreet - Well I kind of fell asleep on this film, however has some of the most incredible background animation I've ever seen. If you're into that, check it out!
Clip.
DC Animated Universe - It isn't considered anime, though I can imagine Bruce Timm was a bit inspired, but I highly recommend the original Batman animated series, and Justice League. Of course Paul Dini is amazing. And the voice talent has taken on their own metamorphosis.
Clip.
I tried to add clips, but it's hard to find a short sample, without AMV's, openings, or trailers.
