Okay I think they're gone. Listen up, mon, old Cygor gonna be tellin ya bout all da pre Cataclysm events goin on in the wowaverse. First and foremost the joint retaking of The Echo Isles and Gnomeregan. Since WOW began, two races have always felt a bit....left out they didn't have their own racial capitals and their racial leaders were practically unknown. But coming in a future patch that's going to change! Players will be able to help Vol'jin/Mekkatorque respectively depending upon faction. For the offical announcments check here:

That's the first quest in a line of quests leading up to the revelation that Cho'gall is still kicking around.So it's very possible the last of the old gods is going to make an appearance in cata. Cho'gall has recently become one of the old god's pawns and with the deaths of Yoggy and C'thun that really only leaves one old god.
Look forward to these two in a future patch (Some speculation says 3.9 but it could really be anything between 3.3.5 and 4.0)
And last but not least Halion and his dragonites! Coming in patch 3.3.5 (The next major content patch.) What could possibly be the last raid in Wrath of the Lich King - "The Ruby Sanctum" - is coming to a computer near you. From what has been shown so far, it looks like we can expect some cataclysm precursors in the raid itself. what with Halion being of the twilight dragonflight which is gonna be pretty big in Cataclysm.

I'm totally in the dark when it comes to the lore behind these places. Except, I've always wanted to see Gnomeregan reclaimed ever since I was escorted through it in my lower level days. I'm hoping this content sticks around for a while, because I don't want to start playing again until Cataclysm is much closer.
It's nice to see them working on the sort of Cataclysm prequel events, though.
It's looking like it's going to be a one time deal. So far you get an overcloak (which is a cosmetic cloak to go over your regular cloak) and an achievement for doing either event, more things may be added later. So nothing really major you'd miss out on.
